The best part of Firenze is the area directly outside of it. In 2021, I rented an apartment in San Niccolo, south of the Arno, so that I could take the walk that I fell in love with when I lived in Firenze in 2016: up the hill into Arcetri, one of the most charming neighborhoods in the ‘commune’. It is suddenly quiet, and you can hear birds chirping all day, and olive trees being tended to, and a woman opening the shutters and calling to her dog after the sun shrinks lower into the horizon. I took this in the last days of April, after a streak of rain. Everything was bright and vibrant again, so bright and cheery that I chose this for the back cover of the photography book.
