Lago di Como was a very typical Sunday while I lived in Milano. I could roll out of bed, walk to the train, pay about six or seven euro, and be listening to the sound of lapping lake water in less than an hour. There is a moment on the train when you first glimpse the lake, before you speed into another tunnel, that feels like taking a gulp of air after holding your breath under water for too long. Your whole being relaxes. I call it nature’s xanny. Not only is it one of the world’s most magnificent places, it is medicinal for the soul.
