Summer nights in Rome are positively endless. It gets dark really late and dinners don’t begin until 21:30 at the very earliest. I love it for its glow, but it does mean I am a bit tipsy by the time aperitivo is over. This evening I remember I was walking from an aperitivo to dinner, and this man had simply stopped, quite put out and determined to read this wall of ancient text. I wonder if he actually understood it or if he was just tired of the sensory overload and needed to give his eyes a break.
