San Fruttuoso, winter beach walk

from $0.00

Anywhere off-season is such a different experience, oftentimes ever so slightly melancholy but beautiful in its peacefulness. I took this at the end of the most harrowing hike of my life. A friend and I decided to venture out on a “path” (rock scramble) from Portofino to San Fruttuoso, a trip normally done by boat. Italians don’t have the same idea of ‘danger’ as some other cultures, and we edged along the cliff for most of the hike, with nothing at all to hold us back from falling a very long fall into the Ligurian sea, and not another soul on the path for hours and hours in each direction. Our legs were jelly by the time we saw San Fruttuoso, but when I spotted this man taking a lone walk on the tiny beach, I propped my camera up to my face and hoped my balance would hold out for just a few more seconds.
